Organic tallow balm is a deeply nourishing, waterless moisturiser made from rendered suet or fat (tallow) sourced from certified organic, grass-fed and grass-finished animals raised without synthetic pesticides, added hormones, or routine antibiotics. Its fatty acid profile closely mirrors human skin oils, helping to support the skin barrier and provide long-lasting hydration without fillers or synthetic additives.
Organic Tallow Co moisturiser balms are of exceptional quality, with certification guaranteed. They are fragrance-free or naturally scented, cruelty-free, and formulated without irritants, GMOs, parabens, sulphates (SLS & SLES), silicones, phthalates, DEA, heavy metals, talc, and petrolatum, paraffin, or mineral oil.
Tallow has been used in traditional skincare for generations. It naturally contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with essential fatty acids that help maintain soft, resilient skin. Because it is highly compatible with human sebum, it absorbs efficiently and supports skin balance rather than disrupting it.
Achieving optimal skin hydration is essential for healthy-looking, comfortable skin. All skin types can become dehydrated through excessive water loss. Neglected skin may become sensitive, flaky, dehydrated, and damaged, increasing the risk of irritation and premature ageing. Organic Tallow Co moisturisers are designed to combat dehydration and nourish the skin’s surface layers. When used twice daily, they help maintain skin function and a healthy glow.
Unlike tallow rendered from cheap beef fat, Organic Tallow Co uses certified organic, single-origin suet from 100% grass-fed and grass-finished Angus cattle sourced from a single farm. This ensures purity, texture stability, traceability, a neutral scent, and superior nutrient content.
We guarantee this because we personally know our farmer, Shane Elliot. His suet is never exposed to synthetic pesticides, added hormones, or routine antibiotics and is gently rendered in small batches to preserve its natural integrity and nutrients. Very few tallow balm makers can genuinely claim single-origin certified organic suet.
Organic Tallow Co products are made at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.
Pure suet-derived tallow has a very subtle, neutral scent. When blended with high-quality organic essential oils and botanical extracts, the natural aroma is completely enveloped by refined, luxurious scents. We never use synthetic fragrance or parfum. Our essential oils are baby-safe, sun-safe, and suitable for sensitive skin. Scent profiles may include ylang ylang, sandalwood, vanilla, frankincense, and lavender.
No. Customers tell us they can't smell any beef at all. Unlike smaller-scale producers whose traditional methods can leave a heavy scent behind, we invest in highly specialized rendering equipment to guarantee a premium cosmetic grade. Our process involves a slow, 24-hour low-heat render of pristine suet, which is then double water rendered. There are no other additives aside from sea salt if required. What’s left is a pure, clean, and incredibly subtle product.
Tallow balm is rich but highly concentrated. When applied sparingly, it melts into the skin and absorbs well, leaving skin deeply nourished rather than oily. The texture and skin feel of our balms are carefully developed to deliver lightweight moisturisation with strong barrier-protecting properties. Our superior suet-derived tallow avoids the greasiness and batch inconsistency associated with lower-grade cosmetic tallow.
Yes. Organic Tallow Co balms are designed for use on the face, lips, body, and even hair. They are especially popular as facial moisturisers for dry, sensitive, or mature skin. If you are acne-prone or new to tallow, we recommend patch testing and starting with a very small amount.
Yes. Our organic tallow balms are gentle and hypoallergenic, and free from synthetic additives and fragrances known to irritate young skin. The inclusion of beeswax enhances barrier protection, making the balm suitable for babies, children, nappy-area care, dry skin, and general skin protection. As with any new product, patch testing is recommended. For babies and children, we suggest our SENSITIVE formula, although all of our balms are baby-safe.
Yes. Our gently formulated organic tallow balms are safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. They are free from synthetic additives and designed to support the skin barrier naturally.
Organic Tallow Co intentionally selects ingredients suitable for sensitive skin. Tallow balm is generally well tolerated due to its minimalist, whole-ingredient formulation. However, individual sensitivities vary, so patch testing before regular use is recommended, especially for reactive or allergy-prone skin.
Tallow is considered low-comedogenic for many skin types because of its similarity to natural skin oils. Skin responses vary, so those prone to congestion should introduce it gradually and observe results. We intentionally include organic jojoba oil in our formulations due to its well-known non-comedogenic properties.
Each formulation is centred around certified organic, single-origin, grass-fed and grass-finished suet-derived tallow. It is blended with a small number of complementary ingredients such as organic plant butters and oils, beeswax, botanical extracts, organic essential oils, and natural vitamin E. Full ingredient lists are displayed clearly on product pages and jar labels.
Our intention is to be as close to 100% certified organic as possible. The only exceptions are Australian-sourced pure beeswax and tocopherol (vitamin E). Beeswax cannot honestly be said to be certified organic while respecting the natural habits of bees because bees forage across wide areas, making it impossible to guarantee nectar exclusively from certified organic plants. Due to beeswax’s essential barrier-enhancing properties, particularly for compromised, dry, and sensitive skin, it was an imperative inclusion. Vitamin E was also an essential addition for our skincare due to its nourishing and antioxidant properties. The very small percentage of these non-organic ingredients in our formula is low enough for our balms to be labelled organic.
Our balm is lightly whipped to create a smooth, solid texture that melts on contact with the skin while remaining stable under normal conditions and refrigeration.
No. Our balms are completely water-free and therefore do not require synthetic preservatives. Tallow is naturally stable when rendered and stored correctly. To further protect delicate oils and scents, we include natural antioxidants such as vitamin E and rosemary extract, along with beeswax, and package our balms in dark Miron glass jars to extend shelf life.
Unopened, because our tallow balms are waterless, they have a long shelf life when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, they are best used within six months. Always apply with clean, dry hands. Many customers enjoy storing their balm in the refrigerator for extended freshness and a sensual cooling experience.
No. Tallow is an animal-derived ingredient. Our products are not vegan, but they align with traditional, ancestral, and nose-to-tail principles that emphasise respectful use of the whole animal and regenerative organic agriculture.
Yes. Our balms are gluten-free. However, as sensitivities vary, we recommend patch testing any new product.
Yes. We prioritise low-waste packaging using reusable and recyclable Miron violet glass jars, which also protect the product and extend shelf life. To minimise waste, we avoid excess packaging and provide detailed product information on our website rather than disposable inserts.
Yes. Our tallow is a by-product of the certified organic food industry and is never sourced from animals raised or harmed specifically for skincare production. We do not participate in animal testing.
Many people with eczema or psoriasis choose tallow balm for very dry or compromised skin and report positive experiences. Our ingredients were selected for their traditional use, skin compatibility, and suitability for sensitive skin. However, our products are cosmetics, not therapeutic goods. We do not claim to treat or cure medical conditions. If you have a diagnosed skin condition, consult a qualified healthcare professional before use, especially if topical steroids have been used long-term.
Warm a small amount between clean, dry fingertips and apply lightly to clean or slightly damp skin. Suitable for face, lips, body, hands, and hair—anywhere skin needs intensive nourishment. Tallow balms layer well with other skincare products and absorb easily.
Yes. Our products are classified as cosmetics and are formulated and labelled in accordance with Australian regulatory requirements. We avoid therapeutic claims and provide full ingredient transparency.
Beard balm is primarily a styling and conditioning product. It contains tallow or oils combined with beeswax, which provides light to medium hold. Beard balm helps tame flyaways, shape the beard, and protect hair from environmental stressors such as wind, cold, and dryness. Because of the beeswax content, beard balm also forms a breathable barrier that locks in moisture, making it especially beneficial for longer or unruly beards. It is ideal for daytime use when structure, neatness, and protection are desired. Beard balms are best for medium to long beards, styling and light hold, beard protection and frizz control, and dry or coarse facial hair.
Beard butter is designed primarily for deep conditioning and softness, with little to no hold. It is lighter in texture and absorbs more fully into the hair and skin beneath the beard. Beard butter focuses on nourishing the beard, reducing dryness and itch, and supporting healthy hair growth. Because it does not contain enough beeswax to provide structure, beard butter is often preferred for nighttime use or for shorter beards where styling hold is unnecessary. Beard butter is best for short to medium beards, overnight conditioning, beard softness and comfort, and reducing itch and dryness.
If your beard needs shaping, control, or protection during the day, choose beard balm. If your beard needs hydration, softness, and skin nourishment, choose beard butter. Many people use both: beard balm during the day and beard butter at night for optimal beard and skin health.
Organic Tallow Co balms are at the upper end of the beard butter category because they contain beeswax, however not in adequate quantities for holding and styling hair like a beard balm. Beard butters protect skin, increase moisture retention, condition hair, reduce dryness and itching, and make beards softer and more comfortable. They are especially beneficial for short to medium length beards. We recommend our MOISTURISER & BEARD BUTTER formula for men, although all of our balms condition hair.
Yes. Beard itch and dandruff are often caused by dry skin beneath the beard rather than the hair itself. Tallow’s fatty acid profile closely mimics natural sebum, helping to restore moisture balance, soothe irritation, and support the skin barrier.
Yes. Tallow balm is excellent for post-shave or freshly groomed skin. Its soothing, barrier-repairing properties help calm irritation, support healing, and reduce dryness without the sting or alcohol found in many aftershaves.
Yes. Tallow balm is suitable for conditioning eyebrows and hair requiring nourishment or control. It is not gender-specific and can be used anywhere hair or skin needs care.
By softening hair and keeping skin supple, tallow balm may help reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs. However, it is not a medical treatment. Gentle exfoliation combined with consistent moisturisation may improve outcomes.
